One of my favorite stories in the Bible is the story of David and Goliath. David is a young boy and Goliath is an eight foot tall soldier. To make a long story short … David after trying on armor decides to confront the enemy giant with what he is skilled with … a sling shot. By the time the dust settles, David stands over the dead giant and Israel defeats their enemy.
There are two thoughts with this story. First, use what you have or are good at. God use our talents and abilities to bring about the good in our life. It is not that God couldn’t miraculously give us some special ability but most of the time the answers to our problems are already in ourselves. And secondly, listen to what David says to Goliath, "You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will hand you over to me, and I'll strike you down and cut off your head. Today I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel.” David put his faith in God, that’s the real answer to our problems today.
The next time you come up against the giants in your life remember to look to God and to the abilities you already have for your answers.
